Jordan

Jordan is an Arab country in West Asia (Middle East). It is named after the Jordan River. Therefore, historically this region was called Transjordan. In 1949, they gained independence from the British government. The capital is Amman. It has a population of about 10 million. Of these, 1.7 million are Palestinian refugees. Muslims are 95% of the population. There are many undocumented immigrants, especially women from the Middle East and Eastern Europe, who usually work in nightclubs. In Jordan, they attend preschool for 2 years, elementary school for 10 years and high school for 2 years. Although supporting the Palestinians, the country also maintains good relations with Israel.

Elvira Al Buqain is an author originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She lived in Jordan for decades, where she was married. She died of pancreatic cancer. In her honor, we have designed an award to be given to the author-participant who promotes Mile Duele the most through the media, throughout the season. The award includes a plaque.
The first prize winner is Lena Kyropoulous (Greece).
In April 2020, by decision of the founder, the award is split into AL BUQAIN MEDIA AWARD and AL BUQAIN ASIA AWARD. The first is assigned as standard. The second prize is awarded for the best placement of authors from Asia.

Elvira Al Buqain
